A mid-1950s recording of the Fresno version of The Buddies performing “A Prom and A Promise,” led by Don Gross.
Released (probably in 1955, according to sources on the internet) as the B-side of “Lottery” on Decca Records as their catalog number 9-30355.
In August 1958, Roger Strunk โ now working at least semi-professionally as Rod Strunk โ would appear separately on the same bill with The Buddies on a Fresno telethon to benefit the local United Cerebral Palsy chapter.
Later, Roger would perform at local clubs and events with The Buddies backing him. His connection with budding Buddies songwriter Don Gross would lead to his signing with RCA Victor in 1959.
While The Buddies never achieved national success, they remained a popular musical group in and around Fresno for many years.
